<image:title>My New Friend Grief - My New Friend, Grief (2016)</image:title>
<image:caption>(from the back cover) "I force my mouth to form a smile, but it is hard to look people in the eyes. I hear my dad’s voice whispering, “Eye contact, Anna.” But making eye contact means seeing and being seen. I try to avoid it. My head is nodding while my heart screams in disagreement with what is being said, “NO HE IS NOT IN A BETTER PLACE. THIS IS WHERE HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE. THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE THAN RIGHT HERE. WITH US…" With extraordinary honesty, Anna shares how she experienced grief after the sudden death of her father. My New Friend Grief: Reflections on Loss and Life divulges how Oginsky’s previous life experience had shaped her beliefs about death and loss. As she sifted through the broken pieces of her heart, she discovered that befriending grief would allow her to move through life in richer, more meaningful ways. My New Friend Grief brings to light the feelings and fears we all experience in grief, but hesitate to express. As Oginsky reveals her personal insights into loss and life, we find a friend who affirms for us that, as we too grieve, we are not alone.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Anna - Why Here? Why Now?</image:title>
<image:caption>The sudden loss of my father in 2010 rocked my world. In my frantic reading about grief and grieving, I realized that the only way out from the weight of my grief, was to try to allow myself to move through it. I gave myself the gifts of time and space to explore my interests in spirituality, art, and life after loss. It was the first time since I became a mother that I had given myself time and space for much of anything. In that process, I explored writing and making art, as well as yoga and meditation. I believe these tools open the doors to our hearts, and that living from that heart space is the key to a peaceful, joyful existence. So much so, that in 2012 I founded Heart Connected, where I share these healing arts practices with others. Along the way, I began writing my first blog—My Hat Trick. It was both humbling and inspiring to learn that my experiences in life and loss resonated with others. The blog eventually led to publishing my first book, My New Friend, Grief with Balboa Press. In the following years, I began work on The Soluna’s Way as an antidote to the chaos that was breaking out in the world at that time. The Soluna’s Way spilled right out of my fingertips and writing it was a joyful and rewarding endeavor. It was good medicine. I loved working with a variety of professionals to bring the book to life. I understand that humans are complex beings with multiple and ever-changing layers, beliefs, values, and identities and I believe that no matter how these layers manifest in each of us, we are meant to experience it together. I strive to honor the intersection of all aspects of humanity—in body, mind, and spirit—in all I do. I hold a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University and an MSW from the University of Michigan, School of Social Work. I am also a Reiki Master and Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT). I completed Yoga Teacher Training in 2016. I live in Brighton, Michigan with my husband, our three children, and our two labradoodles. As a family we love laughing, traveling, and spending time on Lake Michigan. Thank you for your time. I'd love to hear from you if you feel inclined to share!</image:caption>

<image:title>The Soluna's Way - Indie Reader Approved!</image:title>
<image:caption>The Soluna’s Way is Indie Reader Approved! “THE SOLUNA’S WAY is an adventurous middle grade novel that wastes no time in introducing Ayla to the intriguing utopian world of Eema. Ayla is a great heroine—sympathetic, funny, deeply compassionate, and willing to speak up even if it’s not easy, but especially when it’s the right thing to do. Her journey on Eema is helped by characters like Mina, her bubbly new friend who teaches her the ways of their society, and Noor, a Mother who leads their community. Noor’s maternal presence is warm and inviting, and there’s fantastic dimension to her character as the plot unfolds to show that the adults sometimes don’t have all of the answers, or even the right ones. The plot leaves room for all kinds of character nuance, from antagonists who are more than their initial first impressions, to a society that champions gender equality. Gender-nonconforming or nonbinary characters are accepted as the norm.” —Jessica Thomas for IndieReader</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Soluna’s Way was awarded a Silver for Middle Grade Fiction in The Nautilus Book Awards. The Nautilus Book Awards mission is to celebrate and honor books that support conscious living & green values, wellness, social change & social justice, and spiritual growth. It is a profound honor to be on the same awards list as books written by influential authors like Barbara Kingsolver, Naomi Wolf, Louise Erdrich, Julia Cameron, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, and more. (Wow!) And, to be recognized for the achieving the very goal of publishing The Soluna’s Way, which was to contribute a positive, hopeful, and heartfelt story to the collective.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Soluna's Way - What Inspired This Story?</image:title>
<image:caption>From the Author, Anna Oginsky When I was first inspired to write The Soluna’s Way, I was thinking a lot about the motivation behind the contributions individuals make to society. There are multitudes. I felt a shift occurring for me personally though, and while I knew my contribution involved my writing, I wasn’t exactly sure how to best accomplish that. There were a lot of unsettling events occurring in the world at once and perhaps because of social media and the internet, it felt like a non-stop barrage of bad news. Should I chime in? Offer my opinion? My perspective? And as a consumer of all this news, I started thinking about the energy behind the art or offering an individual shares. I wondered how the end result would shift if the energy behind the art came from a place of anger? A place of fear? Or, a place of love?</image:caption>

<image:caption>(from the back cover) Ayla Stone is an inquisitive 12-year-old who feels a little lost. Her grandpa just died, her mom is a mess, and her brother thinks he knows everything . . . Ayla’s quest to lie low and avoid drama is halted when she unknowingly slips into an extraordinary, yet strangely familiar new world. This world started much like Earth but developed into a place without conflict or fear. Until now, when weird weather emerges, and the people start to clash. Ayla is summoned by its leaders to help them restore peace. As threats of disaster loom, Ayla knows the leaders must compromise but she can’t find the courage to confront them. While Ayla struggles to find her voice, a wise mystic called a Soluna speaks up and everything changes.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In the process of preparing The Soluna’s Way for publication, Anna decided to create a coloring page. It was pure joy to work with cover artist, Carole Chevalier, to bring this sweet scene to life, and to share it with readers. You can download the coloring page, by clicking HERE.</image:caption>
